Bob McDonnell drops the F-bomb
Not Larry Sabato was the first to report on this:
Virginia Republican Governor candidate Bob McDonnell appears to have accidentally dropped an F-bomb on a live chat with WTOP news.
[Radio host Mark] Plotkin asked if McDonnell would consider an increase in the state gasoline tax to help fund the transportation budget. McDonnell said no, and uttered the expletive during his response.
“So no tax will be raised during your four-year term?,” Plotkin asked.
McDonnell answered: “I’m going to find other ways to be able to fund transportation. I’ve outlined 12 f—g funding mechanisms that are creative, that are entrepreneurial.”
The audio can be listened to here.
I am not ready to say who I support in VA’s governor race this year. Two men are running, the above McDonnel (R) and Creigh Deeds (D).
Of note, in 2000 when McDonnell was a Virginia state senator he cosponsored a bill that would punish students who use profanity. McDonnell has also recently been in the news concerning his views of women and their place in the family. In that college thesis written during his studies at Regent University McDonnel wrote that working women are “detrimental” to good families. McDonnell also has extreme views on homosexuals and abortion that I do not agree with. I don’t know enough about Deeds to formulate an opinion, but McDonnel looks very extreme right to me.
I’m with you on McDonnell. However, Deeds declared himself a “do something to make us feel good, even if it’s of no use” candidate. From the Richmond Times Dispatch, July 26, 2009, I quote “In an emotional moment, Deeds, a rural legislator who long has supported pro-gun legislation, said he changed his mind on eliminating the so-called “gun-show loophole” after meeting with grieving parents of Virginia Tech victims.” He wants to do something, even if it makes no sense, because it may make someone “feel better”. In the Washington Post, July 27, Deeds is quoted as saying “For me, everything changed on April 16, 2007. As a father, I felt just a need deep down in my soul to respond to their grief somehow.”
I can’t see taking the chance with a “more government, feel-good legislation” believer in the Governor’s Mansion.
Amcit, I agree with what you wrote about Deeds but I’m unconvinced electing Pope McDonnell as our Governor would be good for the Commonwealth considering all the religious right baggage he carries with him. Neither candidate is very palatable to me right now, and like most elections I feel like I’m voting for the “lesser of two evils” come November. Deeds wants to take away our freedoms based on the actions of one person, McDonnell wants to legislate our morality based on one book.
Oh, believe me, I don’t like McDonnell. But I can firmly state Deeds WILL NOT get my vote. Whether McDonnell will or not remains to be seen.
